Katy Perry Concert

June 19, 2011. I just had to show Scott one catchy video by Katy Perry and he was hooked.  The video is funny and a throw back to John Hughes’ 80’s movies, including a few 80’s stars (and Glee stars too). I think that's why he liked it so much.

We tried to get tickets to the November show at MSG that just went on sale but tickets were sold out in less than a minute. Funny how that happens, yet there’s hundreds of tickets available on Stub Hub. So we decided to hit Stub Hub and go to the show this weekend. Katy put on an awesome show! I think she set a record for costume changes, with 7 during one song alone. Only ‘small cameras’ were allow so had to leave the good camera at home (again) but tried to get some good pics of all those costumes.

It was a Candyland theme stage and she opened with ‘Teenage Dream’ (outfit #1)

'Hummingbird Heartbeat'

For Scott's favorite (because of the topic of the song), ‘Waking Up in Vegas’, Katy was joined on stage by her friends ‘Slot’ and Elvis.

‘U R So Gay’ (outfit #2) performed with a few mimes.

One of my favorites, ‘Peacock’ was next with Katy in outfit #3.

Outfit #4 is for ‘I Kissed a Girl’.

‘Circle the Drain’ done in a cat outfit (#5)

For ‘E.T.’ she lost the cat ears and tail.

She slowed it down for ‘Who Am I Living For’.

Aerial performers joined Katy on stage for ‘Pearl’ (outfit #6)

Then Katy was lifted on a platform high above the stage.

She came out on a swing (in outfit #7) and dedicated ‘Not Like the Movies’ to all the couples in the house. A screen came up behind her and played cartoon couples.

Katy came to the front of the stage with a few musicians to do a medley of cover tunes including Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl in the World’, Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ and Willow Smith’s ‘Whip My Hair’.

Katy then got on her cloud-mobile and went out over the audience playing guitar while singing ‘Thinking of You’.

‘Hot N Cold’ had some neat tricks as Katy did seven wardrobe changes during this song alone, right on stage!

Hot N Cold outfit #1 – concert outfit #8

Hot N Cold outfit #2 – concert outfit #9

Hot N Cold outfit #3 – concert outfit #10

Hot N Cold outfit #4 – concert outfit #11

Hot N Cold outfit #5 – concert outfit #12

Hot N Cold outfit #6 – concert outfit #13

The Final Hot N Cold outfit #7 – concert outfit #14 appeared after Katy was blasted with confetti.

‘Last Friday Night (TGIF)’, the song that started it all for Scott. It Ruled!

Another costume change (outfit #15) for the cover of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’. Remember the dot candy on the paper?

She invited many audience members to come on stage and dance with her.

She wrapped up with ‘Firework’ and course there were fireworks.

The encore was ‘California Gurls’ and there was one final costume change (outfit #16). In keeping with the candy theme the top resembled Hershey kisses.

It was quite the finale. She sprayed the audience with water.

Had beach balls on stage.

And danced with gingerbread men.

It was a great show and I highly recommend it.  Who knows, maybe we'll go again in November??

Kayla's Recital

June 18, 2010.  Today we went to our niece Kayla's dance recital.  We were very impressed by how talented she is!

Her first dance was a ballet number.

The 2nd dance for Kayla was jazz.

Kayla and Uncle Scott.  It's a tradition to bring the dancers flowers after the show so Kayla had an arm full.

The star of the show!

Kayla with Neil, Daddy's little girl.

Beautiful mother daughter picture, Jill (Scott's sister) and Kayla.

Kayla with Aunt Michelle and Uncle Scott.

Kayla with her grandparents (Scott's parents) Harry and Marilyn.

This is Calvin.  I got Calvin for Scott many years ago as a small kitten.  When we were doing construction on our house he went to stay with Jill's family.  They fell in love with him, as most people do, and he's been there ever since.  Daisy got to meet him and didn't know what to make of him.  Then she ignored him.

Glee Concert

June 16, 2011. Scott and I, along with our neighbor Kathy went to the Glee concert tonight. Some may call us ‘losers’ but it was a fun show. I was afraid to bring my new camera because I didn't know if it was allowed so I went with the old one, but still got some good pictures.  For this show they were filming for some 3D project, who knows, perhaps a Glee movie?? I don’t know but I think that’s the reason there were some special guest appearances...read on to find out who.

Kathy and I waiting to get into the show.

We were surprised to see Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, open the show. Sporting her track suit gown, she’s holding Glee barf bags which her Cheerios (cheerleaders) were handing out to the audience prior to the show.

They opened with Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. Of course most of the kids at the show weren’t even born when that song was first out....so depressing.

The very talented Heather Morris who plays Brittany S. Pierce (say it out loud) did her version of her character’s idol, Britney Spears' ‘I’m a Slave 4 You’.

Starting at the small stage which was right in front of us, Mark Salling aka Puck, belted out the Queen classic ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’.

Chris Colfer who plays Kurt did a lovely rendition of the Beatles ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’. Again, the parents of the kids at this show may not have even been born when the Beatles were first out.

The soulful Amber Riley (Mercedes) sang her solo from the small stage as well.

Kevin McHale (Artie) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike Chang) took to the stage to do Michael Jackson’s PYT.

Next up was Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’.

Jane Lynch came back out to introduce the rivals of the Glee club, The Warblers.

The Warblers, led by Darren Criss (Blaine), started on the small stage singing Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream.

Then they moved to the big stage with Pink’s ‘Raise Your Glass’.

Duets were next starting with Lea Michele (Rachel) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) singing a medley of ’Happy Days Are Here Again / Get Happy’.  I would have rather heard 'Defining Gravity'.

Dianna Agron (Quinn) and Chord Overstreet (Sam) sang Jason Mraz's ‘Lucky’

Then my favorite duet from Naya Rivers (Santana) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) with the classic ‘River Deep, Mountain Wide’ originally done by Ike & Tina Turner.

Then to our surprise Gwyneth Paltrow came out on stage! She sang Cee-Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’.

Cory Monteith (Finn) did Jesse’s Girl as his solo.  Who remembers Rick Springfield? I'm sure not many in this audience.

Naya Rivera got her solo with ‘Valerie’ and Heather Morris as a back up dancer.

The Glee cast slushied the audience with confetti.

Chris (Curt) led the girls in the Single Ladies dance.

Kevin McHale performed Artie’s dream out of the wheelchair doing the Safety Dance.

The final was Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’

Overall it was a good, fun evening and I'm glad we got tickets this year, no matter what some others may say.
