Our first UKC shows

July 31 & August 1, 2010.  We went to our first United Kennel Club shows this weekend.  UKC is different from AKC in that no professional handlers are allowed (nice!), it recognizes additonal breeds, you can enter the day of the show and they can have multiple shows in one day.  Everyone was very nice and welcoming.  The points system is different and we're still trying to figure it out but we need to earn 100 points for a Championship.

Saturday we won our class for 10 points but Jill's dog, Dodge took Best Dog, Breed and then went onto win the Gun Dog group so we were very happy for her!

The puppy competition wasn't until the end of the day so Prada had to wait until it was her turn to get into the ring.

It was hard to get a good picture from where I was sitting.  Please disregard the judge's butt.

It was worth the wait as Prada won Best Puppy in Show!  Not bad for our little 5 month old's first time in the show ring.  And we're happy she didn't launch herself at the judge when he took out the squeeker.

Sawyer got to hang out with his sisters in the ex-pen.  Here he is with half-siter, Hula.  Hula wasn't feeling so great on Saturday night after she got into my food bag and ate a pound of twizzler bites and a container of rainbow cookies.

Sawyer had a grand time playing with his baby sister, Prada, on Saturday night in the motor home.  Surprisingly the toy actually remained in tact.  I must have been standing by the AC vent because it sounds like I'm in a wind storm.

Saywer relaxing before his second day of showing, or pehaps he's meditating.

The ritual paid off as Sawyer went Best Dog (similar to Winner's Dog in AKC) on Sunday.  So he earned 25 points including a competition win.

We're looking forward to our next set of UKC shows in mid-August.

  1. Wow Michelle, sounds like a fun atmosphere. I know nothing about UKC so thanks for the intro! Way to go Prada & Sawyer!
